Tiger Lily

Tiger Lily - Jodi Lynn Anderson

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair. . . .

Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.

With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.

From the New York Times bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn't grow up.

Ever since starting my new job I have been finding it really difficult to get into a book and having a book constantly keep my attention throughout. Then I stumbled across this little gem of a book. I am a huge fan of Disney and fairytales and Peter Pan is one of my favourite so when I came across this book I knew I just had to read it. I was not disappointed. Tiger Lily is such a unique little gem that I was just taken away right from the beginning and even though it took me a while to finish because of work it still captured my attention and every free moment I had all I wanted was to read it.

Tiger Lily has always been taught to stay away from Pan and the Lost Boys. They are dangerous! So when Tiger Lily comes face to face with Peter Pan she is wary at first. But Tiger Lily's wild streak is drawn to the beautiful, mysterious and misunderstood boy. The more time she spends with Peter the more she falls for him. But when her people, pirates and Englanders against them will they be able to stay together or are the destined to fall apart?

First of all let me just say how talented Jodi Lynn Anderson is. The way she wrote this book was so clever and well thought out it really does take a truly talented writer to pull it off and she did so effortlessly. I was so pleasantly surprised to find that Tiger Lily is wrote from neither Tiger Lily's nor Peter Pan's perspective. No it isn't in third person either. The thing that makes this book such a gem and so cleverly written is that it is told from the perspective of an outside party... Tinkerbell! Now in case you don't know Tinkerbell is my favourite fairytale and Disney character so I was practically jumping with joy to discover this. Tinkerbell cannot speak but she can head thoughts and feelings from others and she has taken a liking to Tiger Lily. Jodi Lynn Anderson... seriously I bow down to you! This book is so superbly and expertly written. There are times where I was caught up in Tiger Lily's and Peter's story that for a moment I would forget that Tink was telling the story and there would just be one little simple sentence that brings you right back into realisation and includes Tink more where you realise just how incredibly clever this book is. I am seriously mind blown by the way it is written. Only a truly talented author could pull this writing style/perspective off and Jodi does it expertly.

Tiger Lily gives a completely new perspective of the Peter Pan fairytale and it compeltely changed my perspective of everything. I felt for Tiger Lily so much! I just adore her. Prior to this book I never really saw Tiger Lily as a competant character in the story but this just completely span that around and she is such an important part of Peter and how he acts and everything. I just loved getting caught up in this new spin on the story while also hinting at such important aspects of the original tale that you find yourself delighted as to how it all links in.

Tiger Lily is a action-packed, emotional ride of a novel and I am still emotional thinking about it days later. This is probably one of my favourite reads of the year. It's so unique, fresh, clever and touching. I cannot praise this book enough. I purely bought it on a whim and read it straight away which is very out of character for me. Usually my books sit on the shelf for ages. There was just a feeling I had about this one and the feeling was right. I would recommend this book to everyone. Even my non-bookish friends it is just THAT good. I absolutely adored it and I will most definitely be looking for Jodi's next novel.
