Alyssa Gardner has been down the rabbit hole and faced the bandersnatch. She saved the life of Jeb, the guy she loves, and escaped the machinations of the disturbingly seductive Morpheus and the vindictive Queen Red. Now all she has to do is graduate high school and make it through prom so she can attend the prestigious art school in London she's always dreamed of.
That would be easier without her mother, freshly released from an asylum, acting overly protective and suspicious. And it would be much simpler if the mysterious Morpheus didn’t show up for school one day to tempt her with another dangerous quest in the dark, challenging Wonderland—where she (partly) belongs.
As prom and graduation creep closer, Alyssa juggles Morpheus’s unsettling presence in her real world with trying to tell Jeb the truth about a past he’s forgotten. Glimpses of Wonderland start to bleed through her art and into her world in very disturbing ways, and Morpheus warns that Queen Red won’t be far behind.
If Alyssa stays in the human realm, she could endanger Jeb, her parents, and everyone she loves. But if she steps through the rabbit hole again, she'll face a deadly battle that could cost more than just her head
"You've already proven you're the guy I always knew you were. The guy I love."
OMG, OMG, OMG!
There were seriously no words as to how excited I was to receive an eARC from Amulet Books and Netgalley of this book. I have only just recently read Splintered and fell head over heels in love... or obsession with it. It is seriously one of my favourite books of all time and I could not wait to get my hands on Unhinged. Unhinged is everything that I hoped for and more. It was complete and utterly mindblowing.
Alyssa survived wonderland with her life, and sanity, in tact. But no matter how she tries to go on with her life Wonderland is always with her. So when the madness of Wonderland starts to bleed into the real world Alyssa knows she must embrace her power and her crown to protect the people she loves and both of the worlds she belongs to.
Unhinged was just epically awesome. I saw a few reviews where people didn't like this one as much as the first because there isn't quite as much Wonderland as Splintered has it in. This didn't bother me in the slightest. Right from the start Anita's awesome writing had grabbed me in and I just couldn't put the book down. The story and the characters are just so addictive that it didn't bother me that we were in the real world for the majority of the book. I was so caught up in the characters and their relationships that that was all that I cared about.
Alyssa has grown so much since the first book. I really loved that. She isn't this girl scared of ending up like her mother anymore. She is strong and powerful and she can kick some ass. I love that about her. You really feel like her experiences are shaping her into a better person and I adored that.
Jeb is the adorable, protective person he always has been and everyone is bound to fall even more in love with him in Unhinged. He is completely perfect for Alyssa and everytime you read about him you just can't help but want to jump in the book and hug him. He goes through an awful lot in Unhinged and deep down I'm totally rooting for him.
Morpheus... oh my beautiful, eccentric Morpheus. Let's face is Morpheus is the best character in this series by a mile. He is beautiful, eccentric and flamboyant. We see more of Morpheus in this book and this is one of the reasons that I loved this one more than the first. Morpheus is my man I am completely head over heels in love with him. You see that he really does care about Alyssa even if he does have underlying manipulative intensions. The more I read Unhinged the more I fell for Morpheus. I adore him and I'm just about ready to scream to Anita that she needs to write me in book three. Morpheus is my man. I adore him and I would so move to Wonderland and be his queen. There may have been lots of Morpheus but I want more. A whole novella or novel of Morpheus would do me just fine. Face it... he's the best and he's completely and utterly stolen my heart.
Unhinged is one of the best books I have read this year. It was complete and utter perfection. I devoured this book. It's eccentric, mad and just down right awesome. You may not see the Wonderland aspects quite as much as Splintered but it's so enrapturing and fast-paced that you don't even notice. It's perfect and wonderful and the ending leaves you reeling. I am dying to get my hands on Ensnared and to be honest I seriously want to cry that I have to wait over a year for it. I need to know the conclusion of the series and see what happens to my Morpheus, Alyssa and Jeb right now.
Unhinged was the perfect sequel to Splintered. It has everything you could have possibly wanted. Eccentricness, magic and danger. It was amazing. If you are looking for a book that will take you on a magical journey of danger, action and romance this series is a must-read. It will take your breath away and have you on tenter hooks dying for the third book. Let's start the Ensnared count-down.
"Nothing can break the chains you have on my heart. For you are Wonderland."
