What if you were bound for a new world, about to pledge your life to someone you'd been promised to since birth, and one unexpected violent attack made survival—not love—the issue?
Out in the murky nebula lurks an unseen enemy: the New Horizon. On its way to populate a distant planet in the wake of Earth's collapse, the ship's crew has been unable to conceive a generation to continue its mission. They need young girls desperately, or their zealous leader's efforts will fail. Onboard their sister ship, the Empyrean, the unsuspecting families don't know an attack is being mounted that could claim the most important among them...
Fifteen-year-old Waverly is part of the first generation to be successfully conceived in deep space; she was born on the Empyrean, and the large farming vessel is all she knows. Her concerns are those of any teenager—until Kieran Alden proposes to her. The handsome captain-to-be has everything Waverly could ever want in a husband, and with the pressure to start having children, everyone is sure he's the best choice. Except for Waverly, who wants more from life than marriage—and is secretly intrigued by the shy, darkly brilliant Seth.
But when the Empyrean faces sudden attack by their assumed allies, they quickly find out that the enemies aren't all from the outside.
Glow is the most riveting series debut since The Hunger Games, and promises to thrill and challenge readers of all ages.
First of all I wanna say a huge thank you to Macmillan Publishing for providing a review copy of this book. As soon as I heard about it and saw the cover I wanted to read it so I was so excited when I received it for review.
I was unsure how much I would like this book as I have never read a book that is set in space before but I thought the storyline sounded really promising so as really excited to find out what it would be like. I am really glad I read it and am happy that it is my first book set in space as I loved it. I can't wait to read some more science-fiction/dystopian-type books like this as I loved it so much.
Waverly and Kieran have been together for a long time and they are the golden couple on their spaceship. No-one is surprised when Kieran proposes and the whole ship is overjoyed. However before Waverly can become comfortable with the idea she is taken by a sister-ship The New Horizon along with all of the other girls. Waverly is strong and she will do whatever is takes to protect the other girls and find their way back home. Kieran is distraught at having been separated from Waverly and has to find a way to be strong for the rest of the boys and learn to take over the ship.
I really loved this story, I thought it was amazing and I can't wait to read the rest of the series and find out what will happen next.
I became really attached to the characters which really surprised me. The book is wrote in a third person narrative but it shows the perspectives of both Waverly and Kieran so you can see what is happening on both ships. Usually in third person narratives I don't find myself getting as attached to the characters as I do in first person narrative books however I really loved it. I loved seeing things from both views and as the events unfolded you could understand the actions of the characters because of the circumstances they are in.
This story is surprising and shocking and horrifying in places but you can't put it down. Once I got into the story I found I couldn't put it down. I was horrified by the people on the New Horizon and what they were doing and I was always guessing what they were planning to do.
This is a amazing unputdownable book and I am so excited to find out what will happen. I loved the ending and it left me reeling for more. I will definitely be reading the rest of this series.
