Splintered (Splintered #1)

Splintered - A.G. Howard

This stunning debut captures the grotesque madness of a mystical under-land, as well as a girl’s pangs of first love and independence. Alyssa Gardner hears the whispers of bugs and flowers—precisely the affliction that landed her mother in a mental hospital years before. This family curse stretches back to her ancestor Alice Liddell, the real-life inspiration for Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Alyssa might be crazy, but she manages to keep it together. For now.
When her mother’s mental health takes a turn for the worse, Alyssa learns that what she thought was fiction is based in terrifying reality. The real Wonderland is a place far darker and more twisted than Lewis Carroll ever let on. There, Alyssa must pass a series of tests, including draining an ocean of Alice’s tears, waking the slumbering tea party, and subduing a vicious bandersnatch, to fix Alice’s mistakes and save her family. She must also decide whom to trust: Jeb, her gorgeous best friend and secret crush, or the sexy but suspicious Morpheus, her guide through Wonderland, who may have dark motives of his own.

"Normal is subjective. Don't ever let anyone tell you you're not normal. Because you are to me. And my opinion is all that matters."

Holy Hell I want to go to Wonderland!

Splintered was without a doubt the surprise of the year so far for me. I bought Splintered quite a few months ago and never read it. To be honest I was a little bit skeptical... Why? Because (and don't shoot me) I am not a fan of the classic original tale of Alice in Wonderland. I find it a bit stupid, it bored me a bit and it has the worst ending in the history of endings. So when I got Splintered and everytime I picked it up to read I was reminded of my disappointment in Alice in Wonderland and I put it back down. But after seeing so many of my friends adore this book and seeing as how the sequel is out in January I decided to pick it up....
AND I FREAKING LOVED IT!
Oh my goodness Splintered was so freaking good. I am in love with Wonderland and have decided I would very much like to go and live there. My mind is blown! AG Howard I bow down to you!

Alyssa hears things that aren't real. The plants and insects talk to her and she knows there is one place she is going to end up. The same place as her mother. The Asylum. But when Alyssa discovers that she may not actually be crazy... her ancestor Alice... yes THAT Alice has cursed the family and now Alyssa must go down the rabbithole and to Wonderland to right Alice's wrongs. What she doesn't count on is her swoonworthy overprotective crush Jeb following her down. Now he's determined to ride the craziness that is Wonderland with her in order to protect her. Can they get back to the mortal world? Or has their guide, Morpheus, have other intentions?

OMG I am so obsessively in love with this book. Not only is it possibly one of the best books I have read this year but it may well be one of the best books I have read IN MY ENTIRE LIFE! There is not one thing I don't like about this book. I love it all. I love the creativity of it, I love the madness of it. It's all just utterly brilliant.

Alyssa is such an awesome heroine. I really loved that we got to see her really grow in this book. She goes from the girl thinking she is crazy to her being this super-strong 'I can do anything to save my family' heroine that will take everything thrown at her in her stride. She sure ain't going down without a fight! I love her!

Now I am very much torn between out two beautiful boys in this book. Of course I love Jeb. He is the perfect, sweet guy. Everything I love in a fictional guy. Sure I love the bad boys but in love triangles I always, always root for the good guy. I always love the good guy more! And I adore Jeb and am completely Team Jeb! But that;s only so I can have Morpheus myself!

Morpheus, my gorgeous gorgeous Morpheus. I LOVE HIM! I love everything about Morpheus. He's so incredibly flamboyant and flirtatious and every scene Morph is in I just find myself with a big cheesy grin on my face. He is without a doubt my favourite character. He is just brilliant! I have decided that I would quite like to move to Wonderland and be with Morpheus.

Splintered completely surprised me and blew me away. Everything about it was fantastic. It's such an incredibly addictive book. I literally couldn't put it down and I devoured it in one day! It was amazing! I have so much love for it and I need to read Unhinged like NOW! Splintered has firmly taken a place in my heart as one of my favourite series of all time. It was utterly fantastic.

"But she knows the truth. That you're it for me, Al. Only you."
