The DUFF
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn’t think she’s the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She’s also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her “the Duff,” she throws her Coke in his face.
But things aren’t so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.
Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn’t such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she’s falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.
Bianca is smart, she is a straight A student and he despises Wesley Rush, the most popular boy in school. But Bianca's home life is crappy and what she wants most of all is a distraction. Something to keep her mind off it. She finds that with Wesley. She may hate him but when she is with him she forgets about everything. So suddenly she finds herself having a purely physical fling with Wesley. What she doesn't count on is finding out how similar they are and she find herself falling for him. But can Wesley, the guy who will have sex with any girl, return her feelings or is she destined to get her heartbroken again?
I loved this book. I loved the characters and everything. Bianca is such a great lead character. She is such a strong character but you get to see vulnerable sides to her and it shows how things affect teenagers just as much as adults. I loved Wesley. At first I didn't really like him. I thought he was an idiot and an ass but the more I read the more I started to love him and realise that he just wanted to be loved and to feel love as he was not getting that from his family.
One of the things I really loved about the storyline was that it showed that no matter how different people are, whether you are the most popular guy in high school or the nerdy straight A student everyone has something is common and we are all alike each other. I also love how it addresses the issue of the 'the duff'. It shows what pretty much every girl thinks of herself at some point and shows that no matter who you are, you will always be beautiful.
I am in love with Kody's books and her edgy writing style is amazing. I will definitely be reading any other books that she publishes. I definitely like this book better than Shut Out but both are excellent books that I could read again and again.
