First Frost (Mythos Academy #0.5)

First Frost (Mythos Academy, #0.5) - Jennifer Estep

I am Gwen Frost, and I have a Gypsy gift.  It's called psychometry - that's a fancy way of saying that I see images in my head and get flashes of other people's memories off almost everything I touch, even guys.

My gift makes me kind of nosy. Okay, okay, maybe a lot nosy--to the point of obsession sometimes. I want to know everything about everyone around me. But even I don't want to know the secrets my friend Paige is hiding or the terrible loss that will send me to a new school - Mythos Academy, where the teachers aren't preparing us for the SATs, but to battle Reapers of Chaos.  Now I have no friends and no idea how my gift fits in with all these warrior whiz kids.  The only thing I do know is that my life is never, ever going to be the same.  .  .

Gwen has a gift, she can tell people's secrets by touching them or things that belong to them. Cool huh? Not always. When she sees something terrible and freaks out she gets sent to a new boarding school - Mythos Academy. But Mythos Academy is no ordinary boarding school, it is school for children with magic, descendants from The Gods themselves. So how will Gwen, a girl with a Gypsy gift fit in with a school full of warrior children? She's not sure but she knows that her life has changed... Forever!

I am definitely a fan of Jennifer Estep after reading this short prequel to the Mythos Academy series. I was completely hooked from the first page and I couldn't put it down as I needed to know what would happen. I first downloaded this book to my kindle when I heard about it, it has mythology in it and I love books with mythological aspects within the story so I instantly wanted to read it. I did not at all expect to be hooked to the story this soon.
I love the characters, Gwen is just amazing. I love how she's just a normal girl who never fit in at a normal school. I love how she wants to use her power to help people but how can she properly if she can't control it?
I really loved the world building that went on throughout this short prequel. I love how it's set in just a normal world but with mythological aspects and powers shining through.

First Frost was a book I decided to read after searching for some short books to read to catch up on my Reading Challenge but what I found instead was a great introduction to a series I can obsess about. It was definitely a surprise and I didn't expect to be hooked to the series is such a short time. I will now be going on to read "Touch of Frost", the first book in this series and I can't wait to find out what's going to happen.

A Fantastic Introduction to a great new Mythological series.
